Dziki Warszawa defeated Górnik Trans.eu Zamek Książ Wałbrzych 76:72 in the hit of the 5th round of Suzuki 1st men's league on their home court. The hero of the match was Alan Czujkowski - he scored 18 points. The winger of "Wataha" was particularly effective from behind the 6.75 line - hitting four out of five shots (80% efficiency). Thanks to Sunday's victory, Dziki remain among the undefeated teams in the back of the Ekstraklasa.
From the beginning of the game, it was noticeable that both teams felt the importance of this match, because in the actions of both the hosts and the guests, there was a lot of nerves and inaccuracy. On the parquet of the capital's Koło hall, the fight for every centimetre of the pitch and every ball collected from the board dominated. After the first ten fairly even minutes of the match, it was the visitors who went into the break with a three-point lead - thanks to an accurate three-pointer by Adrian Sobkowiak .
The second quarter was started better by Marcin Radomski's team, who, after successful actions by the aforementioned Sobkowiak and the excellently prepared Piotr Niedźwiedzki , escaped the hosts by nine "points". Thanks to the good performance of Alan Czujkowski and Antoni Michalski , the capital team quickly made up for the losses, as a result of which, after twenty minutes of play, the scoreboard showed a tie of 35:35.
The second half of the match was just as exciting and even as the first. Mikołaj Stopierzyński definitely stood out in the Górnik team, collecting 20 points in the entire match, hitting - like Alan Czujkowski - four out of five three-pointers. In the home team, the burden of scoring points was spread among several players. Ultimately, as many as six players from the Warsaw Dziki scored double-digit points.
Our under-basket players had a difficult task, who, in the absence of the injured Mateusz Bartosz, had to fight with the tall players of Górnik. Grzegorz Grochowski also took a lot of responsibility for the result of the match. The captain of "Wataha" not only directed the offensive play of the capital team, but also worked hard in defense and motivated his teammates during breaks. Ultimately, it was Krzysztof Szablowski's team that kept more composure in the end and, carried by the loud cheering of the large audience gathered in the Koło hall, defeated the players from Wałbrzych 76:72 and added another two points to their account.
- A very exciting, very good match. I am full of appreciation and admiration for my players, because despite the fact that we had a limited rotation today, each of the boys gave more than they could. I thank them for that. I hope that thanks to today's victory, my players will believe that we can play basketball at a high level. I also congratulate the Górnik team. Together we created a great spectacle at the top, first league level. I would also like to thank our fans for their loud support in today's match. Now it's time for us to take a breather and prepare for the next match - said coach Krzysztof Szablowski at the post-match conference.
- We left our hearts on the pitch today and that's how we won the match. It wasn't easy because we played without Mateusz Bartosz, but we're glad that despite that we showed that we're a team and that we can tip the scales of victory in our favor in a difficult match. This definitely builds us up - added Dzików winger Antek Michalski.
